Beyond delivery day: Bellevue Woman’s Center has support for new moms

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Bringing home a new baby is often described as one of life’s happiest moments. But for many mothers, the weeks and months after childbirth can also bring unexpected emotional, physical, and mental health challenges.

At Bellevue Woman’s Center, supporting mothers doesn’t end when they leave the hospital.

Through education, community outreach, and support services, Bellevue continues to help women navigate the postpartum journey—providing resources designed to foster connection, understanding, and emotional well-being during a major life transition.

Recently, Bellevue’s Community Education Manager, Kelsey Munn-Wilson, RD, IBCLC, and Harlie Wilcox, RN, joined News10 ABC’s Women’s Health Wednesday segment to discuss postpartum mental health and the importance of support after childbirth.

The conversation highlighted a reality that many families experience: While much attention is given to pregnancy and delivery, the postpartum period often receives less attention despite being a time of significant change.

To help address that need, Bellevue offers Healing After Baby, a free nurse-led postpartum support group that provides a welcoming environment for new mothers. Participants can connect with others who share similar experiences, discuss the joys and challenges of early motherhood, and learn about additional resources available in the community.

“One of the most important messages we want mothers to hear is that they are not alone,” said Munn-Wilson. “Support can make a meaningful difference during the postpartum period.”

The group is open to mothers seeking connection, encouragement, and support as they adjust to life with a new baby.

At Bellevue Woman’s Center, caring for mothers and babies extends well beyond delivery day. By creating opportunities for education, connection, and support, Bellevue is helping families thrive during one of life’s most important transitions.
